The first permanent film shows in Porthmadog were commenced around 1919 in this hall, sited at the northern end of Snowdon Street near the Drill Hall. They were run by Messrs Price and Hughes. They continued until superceded by the building of the Coliseum Cinema in Station Road by Capt. W.E. Pritchard, which became the theatre of choice for Porthmadog residents. The transition to sound was never made and it is remembered by local people as "The flea palace".
