Fred E. Young, formerly leasee of cinemas in Aberystwyth and the entertainments manager of Soloman Andrews Enterprises in Pwllheli, introduced film shows in a permanent location to the people of Criccieth here in 1901. It is not known whether this was with Andrews approval or if Young saw an opportunity he could exploit himself. Young’s shows consisted of a variety of shorts, including his own films of the Pwllheli Horse Fair and other films of Pwllheli.

These shows had ceased by 1910, but were carried on by another entrepreneur (possibly Mr. Burrows of Porthmadog) until Capt. W.E. Pritchard commenced shows at the Memorial Hall almost next door in 1925, when they ceased.

Currently the Criccieth Family Church, the hall was connected to the Church of Wales and was known locally as ‘The Church Rooms’. It was bought by the Holiday Club Trust in the mid 1990’s, and renamed then to the ‘Holiday Club Hall’, and now, more recently, the Family Church. The Holiday Club has been a feature of every Summer since 1903 in Criccieth, operated by the Scripture Union Holiday Club (previously CSSM).
