The Australian-based Village Roadshow opened their first Gold Class Cinemas in the United States and in Illinois at The Arboretum of South Barrington "lifestyle center" on October 17, 2008. (The chain’s second cinema, at The Promenade shopping center in Bolingbrook, opened a year later). It was closed in December 2021.

Gold Class Cinemas at The Arboretum was designed for Village Roadshow by the Dallas architectural firm Hodges & Associates. It is one of several Gold Class Cinemas pictured in a slide show at the firm’s web site.

The former iPic at the Arboretum of South Barrington is being reopened this spring by Star Cinema Grill which has also acquired iPic’s former Bolingbrook location as well.
