Opened July 10, 1949 with Ray Milland in “Golden Earrings”. The Skyway Drive-In in Columbia, South Carolina was, if I remember right, pretty much in the center of town, not far from the Dutch Square Twin Theatres of the 1970’s. I am pretty sure this was a Plitt Theatre, because I worked for Plitt Theatres in Augusta, GA and remember going over to Columbia and seeing their theatres, one being a drive-in, and I am pretty sure it was the Skyway Drive-In.
In 1955 it was operated by Max Reinhardt, Exhibitors Service and parked 300 cars. In 1956 it was owned by E.Truesdale. It was closed in 1977. It reopened in 1981 but finally closed in 1983.

Open 1950-1985?
I know it was open in 1967 and was listed as Sky Way.
It was located near train tracks, if that helps?
Anyone know anything about a Skyway Annex Drive-In 1955?
Could use an address, more info and photos!
The Skyway I am told by long time Columbians was located right across from the SC State Fairgrounds on Rosewood Dr.
It was open in 1975 when I graduated from USC Law School. When I returned to Columbia in 1977, it was gone.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 1125 Rosewood Drive.
This opened on July 10th, 1949. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
The Skyway Drive-In held onto a huge amount of incidents during 1975 where a robbery took place including action with a pistol, and in 1977 and 1978 when the theater took all for suitings and claimants.
After closing for a few years beginning in 1977 due to the ownership and the theater filing a suiting, the theater reopened in 1981 but after just 2 years on running mostly not-so-suitable drive-in fare, it closed again, this time for the final time in 1983.
