The Charlottetown Mall Cinemas opened its doors as a twin by Atlantic Theatres Ltd. in 1976 with an original capacity of 700 seats. The seating capacity was downgraded to 512 seats during the early-1980s. Empire Theatres took the theater over in the late-1980s, and two more screens were added in 1990, becoming a quad. The two additional screens also caused the Prince Edward Cinemas to close its doors around the same time.

Empire Theatres doubled the number of screens in 2003, becoming an eight-screen multiplex, and in 2013, was taken over by Cineplex after the sale of Empire’s 24 Atlantic theaters.

Cineplex took over this theatre in 2013 upon the sale of Empire’s 24 Atlantic Theatres. Now renamed Cineplex Cinemas Charlottetown.
