The Cinema Palace was opened on 20th November 1914. It was located almost opposite the clock tower, which was built in 1927. The Cinema Palace had a 28 feet wide proscenium. In 1927 it was equipped with a Fitton & Haley 2Manual/17Ranks organ. The exterior was modernized in the 1930’s, when a tower feature was added to the right-hand side of the building.
It was still open in 1954 when a 26 feet wide CinemaScope screen was installed. It closed around 1960, and was demolished to build a supermarket on the site. In 2016 that new building is a branch of Carphone Warehouse.
