Independently operated, the Varscona Theatre opened on July 6, 1940 with Robert Cummings in “The Under-Pup” and Edmund Lowe in “Honeymoon Deferred”. The single-screen theatre seated 499. It was later taken over by Odeon Theatres (Canada) Ltd. and Famous Players took over running the Varscona Theatre in 1982.
The Varscona Theatre was closed in 1986 and it was demolished in 1987. A Shoppers Drug Mart now stands on the theatre site.

Lawrence Herzog’s brief article on the Varscona Theatre (the last listing on this web page) says that it was opened on July 6, 1940, and was designed by the architectural firm of Rule, Wynn, & Rule (John Rule, Gordon Wynn, and Peter Rule) in a Streamline Modern style. The Varscona Theatre was demolished in 1987.
