The original single-screen Chinook Theatre was opened on September 29, 1965 by Famous Players at the Chinook Shopping Centre. This theatre seated 718 and was used for roadshow presentations.
The Chinook Theatre closed in 1990, though Famous Players later returned to the Chinook Centre in March 2001 with the Paramount Chinook (now the Scotiabank Theatre Chinook).

The theatre space was used for a few years by an arcade before Chinook underwent a major redevelopment in the late 90s. The present day food court is roughly where the theatre used to be.
Slight Correction. It opened on September 29th, 1965. Grand opening ad posted. This is the 2nd theatre to be built on the site with the first being the drive-in and the 3rd being the Paramount/Scotiabank Theatres.
Saw a lot of movies in that theatre back in the 70’s. There was only 1 screen so you’d have to line up forever waiting for the next show to begin.
