Famous Players opened the Gateway 8 Cinemas on December 13, 1985 at the Gateway Village Shopping Centre. The eight-screen complex had a seating total of 2,243.
Following the Cineplex-Famous Players merger in 2005, Cineplex Odeon briefly operated the theatre before it was sold to Empire Theatres later that year. The Gateway 8 closed in 2007 and a furniture store is now located in the former cinema space.
