Located in Hyde, Cheshire, now part of Greater Manchester. The Hippodrome and Opera House was owned by W. Stansfield, and opened possibly before 1914, by when it was operating as a variety theatre with films shown as part of the programme. It had a 36 feet wide proscenium, a 28 feet deep stage and eleven dressing rooms. In 1929 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and was operating with pictures and variety, with the films booked by H.D. Moorhouse Circuit. In 1938 it was taken over by the J.F. Emery Circuit, and they operated it until it closed in 1957. It was still listed as presenting pictures and variety (two changes weekly in 1954).
The building today has a modern rendered façade, and is in use as a discount supermarket store.
