The Sky-Vu Drive-In was located on the SW side of Manhattan on the SW corner of Country Road 418 and Rosencutter Road. It was opened July 27, 1949 with Bud Abbott & Lou Costello in “Pardon My Sarong” and was operated by Mid-Central Theatres. On December 11, 1957 it was taken over by Commonwealth Theaters Corp.
Today, an industrial park has taken over the property and erased all traces of the drive-in. However, a road that runs through the park is called “Sky-Vu Lane” in honor of the drive-in that once stood there.

This opened on July 27th, 1949. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
A more accurate address for this theater is 700 Rosencutter Rd, Manhattan, KS 66502. This points directly to the drive in. The entrance road and part of the exit road are still there. The entrance is still being used. The above address is incorrect. Skyvue is the outline of the drive in.
Please update.
This was our go-to Friday night spot in the 1960’s when I was in high school. Oh…if those speaker poles could talk! I worked there as the projectionist in 1965 - 1966. All night marathons, $1.00 a carload, Union Pacific train tracks just off property. It was owned by Commonwealth when I worked there.
Commonwealth Theatres bought the Sky-Vu, along with the Edgewood, State, Campus, Co-Ed and 14 other theaters, from Mid-Central Theatres on Dec. 11, 1957, per a story in that week’s issue of Boxoffice.
