Opened on November 11, 1948 with Don DeFore in “It Happened on 5th Avenue” & James Baskett in Walt Disney’s “Song of the South”. I have an advertisement for this theatre from the Windsor Star dated August 17, 1972.
As I recall it usually had second run movies and I attended a few performances there when I was a teen. It was not in the downtown core with the other theatres. The Centre Theatre was closed in the early-1980’s.

I still have fond memories of watching “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” from the huge balcony at the Centre Theatre in May 1980. For some reason, all the Disney and Kids flicks that came to Windsor opened at the Centre through the 1970s. I believe it closed in 1981 or 1982 and was quickly demolished. A McDonalds Restaurant now occupies the site.

I think my father, Douglas Whitham, managed this theatre from approximately 1957 through 1962. He was transferred to Orillia after his stay in Windsor. I am his daughter, Chris Whitham and I moved back to this area 9 years ago. Looking for any information, newspaper articles etc. To confirm this was his theatre. Any help would be appreciated.
