The second film to play here was “The Sound of Music” opening June 22, 1966 for a 10-week engagement.
A rendering of the Cinema Theatre appeared on this page of Boxoffice, October 11, 1965. The groundbreaking for the project had just taken place.
From the picture does not to be that large of a single screen house.
Ironically, the first film to be shown at the Cinema was “The Glass Bottom Boat” and the last movie shown there was “Titanic.”
This theater sat within feet of the Broadway Drive-In Theater, which was originally located just to the right of the Cinema Building. A supermarket is located there now.
Plans for the proposed Crest Theatre were announced in Boxoffice Magazine, February 1, 1965. The project was designed by Milton Costlow & Associates, architects of many theaters for the Commonwealth circuit.
