Located in New Brighton near Wallasey on the Wirral, Mersyside. The Palace Theatre opened in 1881 as an amusement center complex which housed a grand hall, a small concert hall, skating ring, aquarium and aviary. The main entrance was in Virginia Road with additional access from the Promenade. In 1906, the Palace exploited the new influence of animated pictures, thus becoming the second venue in Wallasey to be used as a cinema. After a short closure for modifications in 1914, was reopened as the Gaiety Theatre on Easter Monday 1914. Modifications included increased seating capacity to 1,200 from the original 750 seats and the establishment of an orchestra. Name changed in 1920 to Collins Palace Cinema. Closed throughout 1924-1925 and reopened in 1926 under the Palace Theatre name.
The Palace Theatre closed for good on December 11th, 1926 with Hoot Gibson in “Spook Ranch”. It was eventually demolished in 1933 to make way for the construction of the New Palace Amusement Park. That too has since been demolished and replaced by the New Palace & Adventureland which as its entrance on the Promenade.
