Opened on November 17, 1989. This was one of the last of the colourful Famous Players multiplex designs from the late-1980’s/early-1990’s with its “street scene” style cinemas featuring large decorative neon signage above each entrance. It was designed by the architectural firm Petroff Partnership of Toronto.

Six screens each one individually coloured and named:

Majestic Paradise Palace Metro Avalon Olympia

Recently re-branded as Cineplex, it was closed on December 5, 2022 with “Black Panther:Wakanda Forever”.

Cineplex will open a new concept called “Junxion”, which combines a movie theatre with an entertainment centre (a la The Rec Room). It will also have a food hall and even an outdoor patio on the roof. This will open Kildonan Place in 2021, closing this current theatre.

Yet, another Famous Players Street of Theaters design will be gone unfortunately. After this one closes, will there be any left in all of Canada?

I wonder if Cineplex will continue with its plan to open the Junxion or abandon the project and leave the old theatre running as is?

It would be a shame if they tore it down. Just when an old theatre starts to become unique, interesting and retro-cool, the corporate brass decides it needs to be torn down.

The cinema closed on December 5, 2022, and the cinema was only showing one film when it closed: “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” I wonder why the other screens closed. Maybe the projection and sound equipment will be relocated to the new Cineplex Junxion.
