Ormonde Cinema

Located in Greystones, County Wicklow. The Ormonde Cinema was built in 1947 and was originally run by James J. Kavanagh, but latterly run by Graham Spurling from 1977 onwards. In the 1990’s it was used as a backdrop in the TV series “Father Ted” and was later renamed the Screen by the Sea. When it closed on 26th July 2007 with “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” it was the last remaining cinema in County Wicklow.

In 2014 hearts around Greystones skipped a beat when they saw the Ormonde Cinema being returned to its former glory by a truckload of busy construction workers, but it turned out to be a quick facelift for a TV commercial.
