Arkansas-based Rand Theatres second attempt at getting into the Dallas metroplex was this compact seven-plex known as the Blue Grove Plaza 7. Wedged into a tight space within the shopping plaza, the cozy yet nondescript cinema opened on December 9, 1988 as a first-run theatre. Sullivan Key Merrill Architects maximized space. Success was not in the offing for the Rand circuit.
Less than a year later, Rand Theatres was in free-fall financial ruin and the Blue Grove was running without advertisements and with a mixed bag of unknown and second-run titles at full admission price. The theatre was a quick casualty along with the other DFW Rand locations in Lewisville, Burleson and Grapevine. But like those locations, the Blue Grove would re-emerge as a second-run discount house. Cinemark gave it a run and, under independent operation, would finally close in 2001. Names included the Lancaster Cinema 7 and the Pleasant Run Cinema 7.
After a very lengthy period of vacancy, the space would be retrofitted for other retail purposes.
