The Camp Bowie Drive-In was opened in November 1950 when it was operated by Jack Needham. The Gate Inn Motel now sits on the site.

The Meagher Theatre Circuit took on the theatre along with the Bluffvue following the 1965 season.
The drive in was located about 4 miles from the army base. So not quite located near the entrance to the base.
