Located in Newcastle West, County Limerick. This small cinema is believed to have opened before talkies in the late-1920’s. It was owned by a Mr Latchford and was later fitted with a Morrison sound system. What sounds to be a short-lived affair turned out to be one of the county’s longest running cinemas. It was latterly run by “Tossie” Lee who eventually purchased it in 1990 and made it plain that the cinema would now be known as Lee’s Cinema. It was still screening films in December 2000 but later closed. The owner died in 2012 and his sister Philomena was the subject of the film “Philomena”. Films are currently screened in the Desmond Complex by the Newcastle West Film Club.
