Located in Newcastle West, County Limerick. The Desmond Cinema was situated in the Great Banqueting Hall of Desmond Castle which dated from the 12th century. It had opened by 1941, with 500 seats or so and a Western Electric(WE) sound system fitted, and was run by Patrick Carroll-Nash. A fire virtually wrecked the ancient Hall on 26th February 1968 which meant the end of the cinema. The rest of the monument remains as the Desmond Hall.
