This theatre began in planning stages as the Walker Theatre in the Walker County seat of Jasper. Architect Earl G. Stillwell created a modernistic theatre which - upon opening - was called the Jasper Theatre and replaced a theatre of the same name. The ‘New’ Jasper Theatre launched on October 18, 1950 with Dennis Morgan and Betsy Drake in “Pretty Baby”. By 1955 it was operated by the R.M. Kennedy chain. The Jasper Theatre was still open in the 1960’s. It was closed and stood empty for several years until April 1974 when it was badly damaged by a tornado. It was demolished and a bank was built on the site.

In July of 1954, the theatre switched to CinemaScope to show widescreen films.
Uploaded two pictures of the Jasper; one a postcard.
Status is destroyed. By a tornado? Can’t find any record about it’s closing.
This theatre was opened the day after the previous Jasper closed.
