The Lyric as of 1949 originally housed 1,550 seats, heavy Victorian curtains, and two 40-ton air units. The Lyric name and its music theme came from a theater-naming contest, won by local resident Dorothy M. Shotwell. It was first operated by the husband-and-wife team of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Paternostro.
