Opened on October 20, 1949 with Adele Jergens in “When A Girl’s Beautiful” along with an unnamed Popeye cartoon and Paramount News. It was closed on November 15, 1981 with “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”.

The Lyric as of 1949 originally housed 1,550 seats, heavy Victorian curtains, and two 40-ton air units. The Lyric name and its music theme came from a theater-naming contest, won by local resident Dorothy M. Shotwell. It was first operated by the husband-and-wife team of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Paternostro.
