The Cinema 41 was located at the South Trail Shopping Center in Fort Myers right next to a former Publix store which is now a Save-A-Lot store, and opened its doors on December 23, 1966 with Tony Curtis in “Arrivederci, Baby”.
Operated by Cobb Theatres, the Cinema 41’s last film as a single-screener was “Moses” on April 7, 1976, before reopening as a twin two days later on April 9, 1976 with “Lipstick” at Screen 1 and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” at Screen 2 as Cinema I & II.
The Cinema I & II closed for the final time on August 27, 1985 with “Rambo” at Screen 1 and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” at Screen 2. In 2024 it was a Family Dollar store.

Isn’t it interesting how one’s memory has filed away the movies you’ve seen at certain theaters? I lived a couple of blocks from the I and II in 1971-72 and saw “Harold & Maude”, “Vanishing Point”, “Valdez Is Coming”, “The French Connection”, others. Typical two-screen Mall setup that must’ve suffered when the next-door Publix closed.
A Family Dollar store is at that address now. Current use should be retail.
