The 4-screen Vision Cineplex was officially opened for business on 25th May 1994 by the Shaw Organization at Hougang Plaza, which was touted as Singapore’s first suburban all-in-one entertainment complex including a cineplex, a billiards hall and a bowling alley.
Originally meant to be operated by Eng Wah Organization, the premises was sold back to the owners in July 1994 as they were not comfortable with noise penetrating the halls from the bowling alley, which was located right above the Cineplex.
The Cineplex was closed on 1st March 2000, due to declining patronage caused by the proliferation of video piracy during that period. Its premises was then taken up by furnishing retailer Novena.
In April 2013, the Plaza ceased operations and was subsequently redeveloped into a mixed-used commercial and residential development called the Midtown and Midtown Residences after being sold in May 2012.
