Shaw Theatres Balestier

The Balestier Cineplex originally opened for business on 3rd November 1999, comprising of six screens and 1,267 seats as part of a mixed used development comprising of a shopping mall, residential towers and a cinema (Shaw Plaza-Twin Heights). It was built on the site of two former Shaw-owned cinemas, namely Hoover Cinema and President Cinema.

It was closed on 15th August 2019 for a major renovation works together with Shaw Plaza. Upgrading works were originally due to be completed in 2021, but it was delayed by two more years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new cineplex comprised 11 halls and 721 seats, inclusive of six regular halls, four premium-priced Lumiere Halls and children-friendly Dreamers Hall, all of which are equipped with laser projection. While the regular and Lumiere halls commenced operation on 30th March 2023, the Dreamers Hall commenced operations in October that year. Unlike the Jewel cineplex, it features beanbag seats in lieu of fixed seating as it was also configured as a flexible event space as well.
