Originally located inside a pub hall, the Lichtspiele Theatre opened in 1910 and was closed several times over the following two decades due to unprofitability. Ella Mertens-Rösser even tried to reopen it on September 21, 1928 but closed due to the same reason in 1932.
On August 21, 1934, August Peter reopened the theatre as a 351-seat movie theatre, and Peter ran the theatre until his death in the mid-1950’s. His relatives took over the theatre shortly after his death followed by CinemaScope installations a short time afterward followed by expansion to 389 seats.
Last operated as a porn house since 1969, Lucia Janssen (who operated the theatre since 1964) closed the theatre in 1979 and it was demolished in 1980.
