Ingolstadt is situated in Bavaria, in southern Germany. In 1945, car manufacturer Auto Union arrived in the city, after its factories in East Germany had been seized by the Soviets as reparations. Originally a spare parts operation, with the help of aid from the Marshall Plan Auto Union was formally re-founded in the city in 1949. It then evolved into the modern-era Audi company after it was taken over by Volkswagen in 1964. Today, Audi is the region’s largest employer, dominating the city’s economy.
On 15th December 2000, the Audi Forum opened adjacent to their principal factory. The complex includes a visitor centre, Audi museum, interior and exterior exhibition spaces, restaurants - and a ‘boutique-style’ art-house cinema.
That opened in 2002. It is used for corporate presentations and events during the day, but has a full public programme in the evenings and at weekends.
