Kino Open Air

The Turm Baur (“Baur Tower”) is part of the protective bridgehead on the southern bank of the Danube in Ingolstadt, in Bavaria. It was built in the Neo-Classical style between 1828 and 1841 as a flat-roofed, ring-shaped structure. Originally, it had no name; it was given its current name in 1911, in honour of the Bavarian Quartermaster General Carl von Baur.

It is home to the Municipal Simon Mayr Singing and Music School. In the summer months the oval inner courtyard is used for live events and as an open-air cinema.

The 685 fixed seats are set out in three tiers. These are covered: if the weather is particularly favourable they can be supplemented by free-standing deckchairs.

In 2024 (for example) the Kino Open Air begins its summer season on Saturday 27th July with Chaplin’s “The Gold Rush”, with live musical accompaniment, and is due to end on Sunday 1st September with cult favourite “The Rocky Horror Show”.
