The Cedar Theatre was a rental space within the multipurpose Temple Hall building. It began as a transitional entertainment venue featuring vaudeville and short films. Then it became a nickelodeon.
The auditorium had wooden seats in parallel rows and cedar boughs on the ceiling. The balcony housed the projector, office and space for a small orchestra.
The 5 cent admission price continued past 1909 when a group of local investors bought the venture and renamed it the Star Theatre. One of the last holdouts in the city, admission was doubled as of New Years Day 1917.
Despite all efforts by the local churches, there were Sunday shows.
After surviving into the 1920’s it was closed as new, specifically dedicated venues were built.
The building survived until it was demolished in 1975.
