The Mainstreet Theatre opened on August 29, 1934 with Shirley Temple in “Stand Up and Cheer” & Ann Harding in “Gallant Lady”. It was renamed the Regent theatre on May 23, 1935 and became part of the Franklin & Herschorn chain. It closed in 1957 “due to high taxes”. It was later demolished for the Chelsey Place complex (which housed a twin cinema).
