This theatre first appears in the 1937 listings, although no seating capacity is shown until the 1939 listings, suggesting that it may have been under construction.
The building is an interesting ‘rustic moderne’ style with the facade covered in small pieces of limestone. It originally opened with 600 seats, but by 1954 it was listed with 500.
From at least 1959, it was run by the Kerr Theatres circuit, based in Colorado, which also ran the Grand Theatre and the Frontier Drive-In. It is still listed with them in 1965, but had either closed or been sold by 1966.
The building today is in good shape, and is used by a church.

Boxoffice of March 6, 1948, reported that Earl Kerr had taken over the Grand and Marion theatres at Knoxville, Iowa from Mrs. A. M. Black. George D. Hart, formerly manager of Kerr’s Iowa Theatre at Winterset was named manager of the two Knoxville houses.
