TOHO Cinemas Lalaport Iwata

As of 1955, Iwata had a total of eight movie theaters, but all of them disappeared one-by-one until the last remaining theater, the Iwata Nakakatsu Theater, closed in October 1983. This left Iwata without a movie theater for years, leaving residents there to watch movies either at the Iwata Civic Cultural Center, or in neighboring Hamamatsu.

This lasted until the first Iwata movie theater in almost 26 years launched on the third floor of Lalaport Iwata. The TOHO Cinemas LaLaport Iwata opened its doors on July 23, 2009 with ten screens and 1,642 seats alongside 21 wheelchairs (with two in each auditorium except Screen 4, as Screen 4 housed three wheelchairs).

Screen 4 is the largest with 331 seats, and the smallest are Screen 6 and 8 housing 108 seats. The rest of the auditoriums have ranging capacities of 130-203.
