The Teikoku-kan Theater opened in December 1945 as a single-story wooden-built theater screening European films, and was renamed the Toyohashi First Toei Theater in 1949.
Due to the postwar land readjustment projects, the theater was relocated from Kamitenmacho to Kayacho in 1950, and a new two-story wooden building was constructed there. In 1955, it was renamed the Daiichi Toei, and on December 27 of that same year, a new reinforced concrete building with three floors and one basement was constructed with a capacity of 600 people. Toei returned to the theater in 1963, and was renamed the Toyohashi Toei Theater.
It was twinned in 1984, with 320 seats in Screen 1 and 197 seats in Screen 2. This lasted until closing for the final time on November 24, 2000, due to the impact of AMC Holiday Square 18, and it was decided to close because the Toei could no longer see prospects of turning a profit. It was demolished to make way for a parking lot.
