This mega multiplex in the heart of Toyohashi was the replacement of several theaters in the area. The first one, the Holiday Inn Theater, is both a twin-screen Japanese and foreign mixture movie theater and a training facility located in the Holiday Square part of Fujisawa, which operated from October 1, 1985 until its closure in 1999. There is also the Toyohashi Shochiku Piccadilly Kaikan, a four-screen Shochiku theater which operated from May 1947 until May 31, 2000, and the Toyohashi Toei Theater, a twin-screen Toei theater which operated from December 1945 until November 24, 2000.

The AMC Holiday Square 18 first opened its doors by AMC Theatres on July 17, 1999 on the 3rd to 6th floors of the Holiday Square Amusement Plaza, a six-story amusement building with a total floor space of 16,500 square-meters. This is AMC’s third movie theater to operate in Japan, following both the AMC Canal City 13 and the AMC Nakama 16, which both are located in the Fukuoka Prefecture, and was both the largest and the 12th multiplex theater to operate in the Tokai region.

United Cinemas acquired AMC Theatres in 2005, and was renamed the United Cinemas Toyohashi 18 on October 1 of that same year. The UC Toyohashi was also the first movie theater in the East Mikawa region to install 3D film screening equipment, and was the only theater in connection of the 3D installations to screen “Avatar” in 3D. On June 13, 2014, IMAX was installed inside Screen 15 and was the 17th movie theater in Japan to have IMAX installations as well as being the second in the Tokai region after the 109 Cinemas Nagoya in Nagoya.

Screen 14 was the largest with 358 seats and Screen 4 is the smallest with 72 seats. Screen 4 also has installations of 4DX, which were introduced on June 19, 2020, and was the first in Japan to have a Slide & Twist function for 24 “MAX” seats. The rest of the auditoriums have ranging capacities of 101-308.
