The Toyohashi Shochiku Theater opened its doors as a 600-seat two-story wooden theater in May 1947 on the site of the former Toyohashi Theater, which opened on March 1, 1899 and was destroyed during the midnight hours between June 19 and 20, 1945 due to the theater being burned down during the Great Toyohashi Air Raid during the final stages of World War II.
On December 17, 1960, the original theater was converted into a multi-theater called the Toyohashi Shochiku Kaikan, a two-story building that was rebuilt out of reinforced concrete with one basement floor having two screens, the Toyohashi Shochiku with 334 seats, and the Toyohashi Meigaza with 486 seats. In 1963, the Shochiku Roxy Theater with 99 seats was opened in the basement followed by the Shochiku Cinema with 104 seats on the second floor that same year, which eventually become a four-plex. There is also a pachinko parlor and a coffee shop at the theater as well, and the Meigaza was the only theater in the eastern Mikawa region that contains installations of 70mm projection with 3D sound.
On April 27, 1985, the Meigaza, Roxy, and Shochiku Cinema screens were renamed the Piccadilly 1, 2, and 3, leaving the Toyohashi Shochiku Theater the only original name operating.
All four auditoriums last have 361 seats in Piccadilly 1, 198 seats in Piccadilly 2, 98 seats in Piccadilly 3, and 116 seat sin the Shochiku, before closing for the final time on May 31, 2000. The Aichi Prefecture Shinkin Guarantee Association Higashi Mikawa Branch building occupies the former site of the theaters.
