The 425-seat Star Theatre opened its doors on December 15, 1950 with Ben Johnson in “Wagonmaster” (unknown if extras added), featuring installations of both Simplex XL projection, a 132x180in Walker Plastic screen, and Four Star sound. It was managed by the father-and-son team of George and Henry Walje and was built with an estimate $65,000.
The building measures 37½x120ft featuring a brick front with a bevelite marquee. The box office also has a large cream-colored star in the center with maroon-glazed brick surrounding. The inside of the lobby of natural pine has a tile inlaid red and white diamond square floor with concessions, water fountains, restrooms for both genders, and modern lighting and indirect streamlined decorations on the walls of the interior of light green with dark green wains coating 4ft up. The ceiling is white celetex board for sound affect and control, and the projection room is fireproof is throughout approval by the State Fire Marshall.
It was still open into as late as 1965.
