Built sometime between 1901 and 1905, this basic one story wooden opera house was apparently operated by J.B. Tackett from its opening. He is listed as the manager in the 1905 Cahn guide.
Still called the Auditorium on the 1908 map, this theatre underwent quite a change by 1913. Originally built facing north with an address of 129 W. Seventh Street, the theatre was rotated to face west, allowing the construction of the Roberts Steam Laundry south of the theatre. The map for 1913 shows the name as ‘Thackett’s Theatre’, misspelling the name.
Sometime around 1914, it appears this theatre was closed (it is not listed in the 1914-15 AMPD). The name was later relocated to a building on Eighth Street. The 1923 map shows a small wooden gas station on this lot. This is now gone, and the corner is occupied by a derelict carwash which might date to around 1970.
