The Yuraku Grand Theater and the Yuraku Western Theater are two movie theaters in the Yuraku Hall building, which were constructed by the Shimizu Corporation with projection equipment provided by Nippon Onkyo Seiki, costing a total of approximately 100 million yen at the time.
The Yuraku Grand Theater and the Yuraku Western Theater opened their doors on December 15, 1954, with the Yuraku Western Theater screening first-run American movies with installations of CinemaScope, opening with Richard Burton in “The Robe” along with a live performance by Hasegawa Kazuo before showing. The Yuraku Grand Theater screens Japanese films at the time, and both theaters were operated by Kazuo Hasegawa.
On July 1, 1971, the Yuraku Western Theater was renamed the Yuraku Film Theater, and remained like that for another 19 years. Unfortunately due to the deterioration of the Yuraku Hall building, both the Yuraku Grand and Film Theaters closed their doors for the final time on October 31, 1990.
