Vogue Theatre

The Vogue Theatre is one of several downtown single-screeners in downtown Leamington, opening in August 1939 by the management of Mr. A.R. Axler and originally housed 750 seats. Its original owner and contractor is Cap Casper.

Famous Players took over the Vogue Theatre in 1947, followed by Premiere Theatres Canada later on, who operated the Vogue Theatre throughout most of its life until March 25, 1983 when it was taken over by Metro Theatre Holdings. It did have a brief closure on January 17, 1984 because of problems with creditors. Premier retook the theater’s operation and reopened a few weeks later. Longtime manager and projectionist Fred Horne also left the theatre and was replaced by Chris and Terry Clement.

The Vogue Theatre did have another brief closure on March 10, 1988 after running “She’s Having A Baby”, but new management led by a London, Ontario couple took over the VogueTheatre again, and reopened once again the following month on April 15, 1988 with “Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach”. Unfortunately this did not last long. The video battle immediately lost the Vogue’s life, and the Vogue Theatre closed for the final time on February 21, 1989 with “Alien Nation”.

A new building containing a restaurant now stands on the site.
