The Colonial Theatre opened in late-1909 and was sold in April 1912 to the Canadian Amusement Company. It was renamed the Strand Theatre that same year, and was still open in 1949. Its closing date remains unconfirmed at this time. Since at least 2007 it has operated as a resaurant under different owners & names.

Newmarket once had two movie theaters during World War I, including the Strand, with the other being the Patricia, which will have its own CT page soon.
