The single-screen 1,048-seat Mellett Mall Cinema opened on December 20, 1968 with Dean Jones in “The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit” & the Walt Disney animated feature “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day”. It was divided in half on November 2, 1973 and was renamed Canton Center Cinema I & II on May 26, 1989. On January 26, 1990 it was reopened following a rebuild with 8-screens. It was closed by General Cinema on October 5, 2000. It was reopened by Entertainment Film Works on September 7, 2001 and they were evicted from the building for non-payment of rent on November 19, 2002. It was demolished in 2004.

The cinema remained connected to the mall. It operated until October 5, 2000, when GCC closed it for good. Shortly thereafter another “company” re-opened the theater for a few months, but was shut down again when they neglected to pay rent – ever. The cinema, along with the vacant Montgomery Ward’s store, was demolished in 2004 to make way for a new shadow anchor (i.e. within spitting distance yet unconnected) Wal-Mart Super Center that opened in 2005.
