The door to the right side of the lobby is the entrance and ticket booth of the front stalls.

This photograph was taken on the opening date of the New York Theatre. Firecrackers were burnt to celebrate the opening of the new theatre in Causeway Bay on the Hong Kong Island.

The left corner of the entrance is the ticket booth for back stalls,while the right side is for dress circle.The staircase leading to the cafe on the mezzanine floor is in the middle of the lobby and to the right side of the entrance of the back stalls.The canopy above the pavement was added after the war.

The two Chinese characters平安 below Alhambra were the Chinese name of the theatre.The two characters were written from right to left. After further research,the photographer of this photograph was probably a British soldier stationed in Hong Kong after WWII.

As observed from this historical photograph,the entrance,lobby and the front stalls ticket booth were by the Yee Wo Street[怡和街],while the other side is facing the Victoria Park[typhoon shelter before the typhoon shelter was reclaimed and the Victoria Park was built.]The side facing the Victoria Park is on the left side of the fan-shaped auditorium.

The opening advertisement of the Oriental Theatre in Chinese.東方 is the Chinese name of the Oriental Theatre ,while 娛樂 is the King’s Theatre.
