I agree. The only awards shows that communicates with the moviegoing public are the people’s choice awards as well as the MTV movie awards. Not too long ago Blockbuster had an awards show but they pulled out to focus on renting movies.

Can’t wait to see if Indy wins best picture for Mr. Speilberg, who hasn’t won an oscar in 15 years!!! If he wins, then ratings will skyrocket from this year.

To this day, the idea of nuclear war still exists in the minds of TV producers. Look at the last season of “24”, in one of the episodes, a big explosion that eerily looks like something out of Hiroshima occurs. Even theatrical movies have used it, mostly in sci-fi movies set in the future, such as Terminator 2 and its TV series sequel, The Sarah Connor Chronicles. If the TV movie “The Day After” were remade for post 9/11 audiences, then the planes carrying the bombs will be from Iran but the city will still be the same.

on a brighter note, the AMC in Rockaway is selling newer snacks other than popcorn, such as frooti tooties for the kiddies and Nestle Ice Cream, in order to make more profit. Remember, concession sales are number 1 at this theater in line with ticket sales. Maybe in the near future they will sell the pizza that older theaters have!!!

went to see “Spiderwick” in theater #11, very well behaved crowd. One issue that I should mention is that there are a bunch of imperfections on the projection screen, not the film. This makes watching bright scenes annoying, but darker scenes are ok. The sound system was pretty good. The only splice occured near the end of the film, but it didn’t distract the sound system. I sat one row above the front-row seating for a better view, and the film projection was very sharp and there was no masking issues. Too bad AMC won’t have IMAX just in time for Kung Fu Panda. BTW, how’s the installation going on the new IMAX digital? I can’t wait to see it!!!

Today was the first time an oscar movie marathon has played in an AMC in Rockaway. What was the experience like…I couldn’t come due to the bad weather, but was it crowded, and how was presentation and service? Let me know tomorrow.

I agree. King Kong, even though its showing its age, still provides thrills and chills!!!

I can’t make it…I’ll probably rent it from Netflix on regular DVD, since all versions of Kong are not on Bluray. The 2005 remake was one of the first big HD-DVD titles during the format’s heyday and came packed in with the HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360. It was also made into a video game for all systems. Donkey Kong took inspiration from the movie, as well as Rampage. The movie was also colorized (1933) and shown heavily on Ted Turner’s channels, since Time Warner now owns the rights to the movie, once owned by RKO. Followed by a sequel, Son of Kong, which didn’t do well as the first one. Referenced in many popular songs, as well as parodied in TV ads. Without King Kong, there would’ve been no Cloverfield.

Some of these musicians haven’t survived, and younger musicians have filled in those orchestra seats, continuing the tradition of bringing great music to the Christmas Spectaculars. When will Radio City show a movie again? Last one I heard was the Die Hard event last summer. I’d like to see Indiana Jones play its world premiere at this theater, even if it plays at the Ziegfeld.

How long is the lease at this theatre? The originals had like 20 year leases that were not extended. And I read a report that says AMC’s profit was down a bit in the 4Q from the 3rd quarter as ticket prices went up. This weekend’s box office looks a bit dissapointing. Good thing AMC still uses the A.M. Cinema program in Rockaway providing $6 showings rather than Parsippany, which charges the second highest matinee pricing in the area!

thanks for changing the status of the theater, CT. I wonder what will become of this now barren building. I guess a million people visited this theater during its 42 year run.

I’ve seen the 1976 version as well as the 2005 version, but not the 1933 version. The 2005 version stays true to the original and has some pretty good effects. Between King Kong and Godzilla, I’d say King Kong has the edge in movie culture.

You’re right. Cinema Treasures existed way before Wikipedia changed the way we read info about stuff. Wikipedia doesn’t even have a listing for Clearview Cinemas, it’s only mentioned once in the Cablevision wiki. There are wikis for other theater chains as well.

Later this year this theater will turn 15 years old. A few years after opening in 1993, other loews locations in North Jersey adopted the Star Design, which is still in use today even with people now wearing AMC uniforms as well as the trailers. Both this theater and the Succasunna theater owned by Clearview are near the start and end of Route 10, respectively. Both have sloped down seating but Clearview has the advantage with digital projection (even though they have no morning prices). What will the next 15 years bring for this struggling theater? Only time will tell…

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Ridgefield Park 12 on Feb 13, 2008 at 11:55 am

Last spring of 2007, the theater was closed for awhile because of a methane gas leak. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Loews' second theater in Bergen County, several years after the opening of the Showboat Quad in nearby Edgewater, and I’ve read blogs online that say that this theater is not a true AMC theater, as it’s now called. Only a few Loews locations that have stadium seating, an IMAX theater attached to it, or huge crowds survive after AMC buys these locations. It was nearby the site of a fatal crash near the 80/95 interchange where some high school kids were killed trying to cross the road.
