A far cry from when it opened as a single screen theatre and the capacity was 2,200.

The size of these auditoriums is now approaching that of some living rooms! Can’t believe the largest one holds only 175.

Went here today for the first time since all the renovations and now the reserved seating. When you go they show you a floor plan of each cinema on the computer. They point out the unsold areas. The capacity seating for each cinema has been greatly reduced. I think prior to this, one cinema sat over 400 and maybe 4 sat 250. Now the biggest screen, screen 4 accomodates 175. Upstairs theater 7 is 100 seats, 6 is 105 and 5 is 98. Downstairs the small one sits 62, theater 2 now 74 and theater 3 is in the 80’s. In addition if people lean back in the chairs with their feet up in the air it makes it difficult for people who say have to go the bathroom to get out as people do or don’t adjust their seats. Wth the total seating capacity of the place greatly reduced I would think the profit margins for this cinema have been greatly diminshed.

Apparently the downstairs theaters must be done or will be finished this week. On Friday 4 films are scheduled to be running there although all still starting after 4 PM.

With the remodel happening it’s a bit frustrating that there aren’t any pictures posted of the theatre in it’s Cineplex Odeon state.

Was here yesterday to see “End of Watch”. The bottom area where the downstairs 3 screens are is closed off with a door to get through which you can see from the level you walk in from. The refreshment stand is gone and the ventilation system downstairs is gutted. Upstairs refreshment stand is open which I’ve never seen before but rarely have I gone to this theater in the evening. Wonder if their films opening will be in Bay Terrace Saturday and Sunday again. They have construction signs up saying the place will be worked on last weekend and the upcoming weekend between 7 AM and 5 PM each day. Bathroom has a new floor coming in

No, now they’re closed this weekend, nothing on the marquee and both End of Watch and House at the End of the Street are playing Bay Terrace also.

The theater is open again but still only 3 screens. They have openers End of Watch and House at the End of the Street plus a moveover of ParaNorman from Bay Terrace. According to the Bay Terrace manager the theater is getting totally redone in sections, not just new air conditioning but new seats, new designs on the walls etc. Wxpected to be fully back to normal in November and will seem like a brand new theater.

Actually, Resident Evil and The Possession will play Bay Terrace all week. This theater is closed this week but will reopen next week. They are getting their air conditioning fixed.

Due to the renovations of the Fresh Meadows theater the AMC Bay Terrace theater has both openers (Finding Nemo 3D and Resident Evil: Retribution) but also gets the Possession and the Expendables 2 from here. Now get this both Resident Evil and the Possession are only in Bay Terrace Friday and Saturday. Bay Terrace says Fresh Meadows is closed for a week and they’re playing their pictures. Now End of Watch scheduled to open the 21st has its times up on Fandango and the regular early morning shows seem to be back. Originally they said 3 or 4 months. Where do Resident Evil and the Possession go the rest of the week?

They are still open, went by the theater this afternoon. They are renovating the downstairs area so there will be only the 3 upstairs theaters open for the next to 3 or 4 months. Of course who knows if the escalator will be working. The regular ticket booth is closed off with them using the one closest to the expressway now. They say we have pictures AMC Bay Terrace doesn’t have but they’re getting nothing new this week. On Fandango only the film “End of Watch” opening September 21 has advance tickets being sold. Should be interesting here in the AMC theaters in this neck of the woods through the Christmas season.

It would be a shame if the Fresh Meadows was really on its last legs, but it sounds as if most of the modernistic grandeur has long been gone anyway. BTW, Tinseltoes, the Box Office article you linked to on July 5 is fascinating – what a great resource that site is. And if you scroll ahead to Page 12 there’s another photo of the Meadows auditorium, in an article on seats.

It is likely the basement theatres flooded, as has happened before.

Is there anyting weird happening here. The websites for Moviephone and Fandango show like only 5 pictures are there on 3 screens and the theater is opening after 3 pm. Also no one is answering their telephone. I know they have had escalator and elevator problems and last week when I went to “Expendibles 2” the bathroom floor was all covered up with some part of the floor missing. They show advance ticket sales for a film opening September 21 but Bay Terrace is getting the 2 openers this week and are selling another advance one. Are they having repair work done to the theater?

That is awesome, Tinseltoes! That publication is an absolute treasure trove of information, and how great it is that it’s all been scanned and is available online! The blurb for the cover story says “New type of theatre opened for automobile trade by Century Circuit” so I went looking through the pages and found the story, which is fascinating – it’s even got a reproduction of one of the grand opening newspaper ads. (And according to the story, it was not actually built FOR Century Theatres; it was built by NY Life Insurance Co. as part of the adjacent housing project, and leased from plans by a VP of the Century Circuit) http://www.boxoffice.com/the_vault/issue_page?issue_id=1949-12-3&page_no=17#page_start

I believe those single seats are for companions of wheelchair patrons, who use those open spaces.

I was here yesterday to see “The Three Stooges” and it was shown in auditorium 2. The sign says the theater can hold no more than 250 people which is I believe the seating listed in someone else’s comment from 2009. It looked smaller to me despite what the sign said so I counted and came up with 185 seats. It’s weird too how they have 2 seats in one corner in the back and I believe 1 each by themselves in the back for the middle section and the left side of the theater.
