Thanks. It appears that Harvey Levin got tired of going back and forth between NY & LA and is now doing the commentary from LA. The judge, Marilyn Milian lives in Florida and I wondered since Levin was doing his work from LA, maybe she got them to tape in Florida. But, they appear to still have a New York State flag behind her. But if they tape on 38th ST, then I gues they never used the Embassy as a studio. It’s been so long since I’ve been to Times Square that I don’t know what’s going on there anymore.

I believe the People’s Court is taped on 38th street and only the commentary is done in Times Square.

Thanks Al. Do you know if they actually are using the theatre itself as a studio for The Peoples Court, or are they just using the front for Harvey Levin’s follow-up?

Does anyone know if it’s the Embassy they are (or were) using as a studio for “The People’s Court”? It appears that until recently, Harvey Levin (from TMZ), does the follow up standing outside what appears to be the Embassy.

Hi Al,

It’s Bruce, the projectionist from the Alpine. I know you were once at the Meadows, but I wasn’t sure if you were also at the RKO Alden when I worked there. I know the DM for the Alden was Richie Einiger, but I was told that he passed away.

Yes, Cineplex Odeon.

Are you the same Al Alvarez that worked for Cineplex Odeon (or was it RKO Cnetury)?

This ad claims the Embassy 46th street was “the world’s first news-reel theatre.”

In the summer of 1968, my dad took me to New York and I went to several movies on Broadway. One was “WILD IN THE STREETS” at the Embassy. I remember the admission was $3 which was more than twice what theatres were charging in Virginia, but it was a matinee and there were over 100 people in attendance.

I only went to the Embassy twice, in 1974 to see a marathon showing of all five “Planet of the Apes” films, and in 1984 to see “The Ten Commandments.” The latter was the last time I was fortunate enough to see that film on a big screen. I don’t remember any sigh line problems, but then, it was a long time ago. I do recall how great it was to see “The Ten Commandments” on a big screen the way it was intended to be.

Ironically, I have probably visited the Embassy more often since it became a tourist info center because it has the only public restrooms in the Times Square area.

Tnanks for some of the photos posted. What memories they stirred! I’d forgotten about the Wienerwald that used to be there before the McDonald’s.

I believe the box office was on the left side of the theatre front. Where the “People’s Court” does their Times Square broadcast remote from.

I visited the visitor centre with my family during the easter week of 2008,I was fascinated to find it used to be a cinema as I’m a projectionist in a small town in Wales.

Quite some time afterwards when browsing through my cinema photos I realised I’d actually been there when it was still a theatre, and saw the film “True Identity” a comedy starring the british comedian Lenny Henry, way back in 1991.Although I hate to see these old cinemas close,I was pleased to see they kept to the theme of the place, Many cinemas in this country have been converted into supermarkets “ugh"

Does anyone know where the box office was before it’s info center days?

It was the same winter! The Hollywood Twin was doing revivals at the time…a packed house for Breaker Morant and Gallipoli

Seth, yet you weren’t afraid to venture into the Hollywood Twin…?

The quintessential Broadway single screen if not grindhouse I was well into my twenties before I dared go in here – can’t imagine it was any studio’s first choice for a Broadway first run but was considerably smaller than the State or Cinerama twins…It was a late night show of 48 Hours and I do believe someone pulled a gun while we were waiting in line to buy tickets…A few years later saw Crimes and Misdemeanors here as well…

QUOTE “No one working at the centre had any idea that the building was once a theatre.”

That doesn’t surprise me at all. You wouldn’t believe how many times that has happened to me in many former theatres that I have visited across this great nation. Often they still have a sloped floor, projection ports, and a stage proscenium… and yet people haven’t a clue.

I always try to stop in when I’m passing by, just for old times' sake.
