My personal thoughts are that a multiscreen cinema cafe with an alcohol permit would do killer business here. There are no cinema cafes in the Hartford area at all, but the two in Connecticut, in Litchfield County, are thriving.
and West Hartford has a new 5 screen cinema opening there within the next two years. Also, there is a National Amusements multiplex in Berlin, just past Newington. I wish all those old theatres in Newington hadn’t closed in the first place.
Anyone know when this will reopen? It has been a year since the original reopening date.

This episode is going to use photographs I took of the Loews Paradise during renovations in June August 2004.
The Bridgeport he means is Bridgeport, Conn. Incidentally, the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport is supposed to be reopening any time now.
The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center is opening next year in a former theatre just up the street from this one.
It is supposedly going to reopen as a 1500 seat live concert venue in 2008.
I toured the Paradise during renovations about two years ago. i’d love to go back in now that it is completed!

It was closed because the landlord would not extend the lease. He does not want a theatre in there. He wants to turn it into retail.
Status and number of screens still need updating.
As with all Loews locations, this is now owned by AMC.
Last I knew it was still there on the auction block earlier this year. I don’t think it sold.
It was operating at least through 2004.
The auditorium was recently knocked down, so now this theatre is completely demolished. A new building is being constructed where it used to stand.

It has closed as of 2/27/06. Hopefully someone will reopen this place.

I remember going to all those cinemas you mention. The Webster is near Wethersfield, but it is in Hartford.
Actually, Newington had 4 theatres at one time. The Newington Cinemas, the Newington Theatre, the Hartford Drive-In, and the Pike Drive-In.
The Rockland Theatre was an entirely different theatre. It was located at 36 North Broadway and has long since been demolished.
