A conversion of all auditoriums to digital projection is supposed to be in the works and completed by September. Right now, four auditoriums (auditoriums 3, 8, 9 and 12) have digital projections but only three of them seem to used most of the time.
As it turns out, the theatre actually did rather well in its short time span. Fridays and Saturdays reportedly had many sellouts and the theatre attracted many teens and couples. The theatre actually closed due to the city evicting the old tenants of 42nd Street despite business. The owners later sued the city but I don’t know how that went.
The theatre was run by a company called First International, co-owned by Morgan Creek Productions (the film company) in the 1990’s. Before then, United Artists owned the theatre (after Commonwealth was sold).
According to the company’s president in a 1989 mention of the theatre in Boxoffice magazine, Child’s Play made more money at this theatre than any other theatre that played it.
It looks like that Wehrenberg may be trying to close this theatre. They will be beginning a second-run policy this Friday.

One of the aborted opening dates was July 28th, 1991. Two prints of Mobsters and two prints of Another You were listed as playing.

I wonder how long it said that Die Hard was in Cinema II at that point.
