I see! Thanks a lot for the explanation, xbs2044.

Jungle Book certainly won’t be in 70mm and I bet Civil War won’t either (despite having 20 minutes filmed with IMAX cameras).

Even if a theater has a 70mm projector in place (and if Lincoln reinstalls this, I’m sure they are still not removing their digital projector until laser comes in), a studio still has to provide a 70mm print, which many are reluctant to do when those costs tens of thousands to make vs $150 or so to provide a digital IMAX copy.

This plan will be so fantastic for many moviegoers! Showing BvS, Jungle Book, Beautiful Planet and Captain American in 70mm will be a a lot better than laser IMAX! Especially BvS and BP MUST be seen in 70mm!

Eileen Campbell (who works for IMAX and responds to fan questions) said it was removed in anticipation of going to laser.

Though probably with the multiple laser delays, they realized it was not the best move to get rid of the projector (indeed A Beautiful Planet opens in April and was confirmed to get 15/70 prints long ago, so they could also use the projector for that, and that’s something I would certainly see at Lincoln Square), which is somewhat good news, but likely also suggests the laser installation could be coming in the fall or even later.

Was the 15/70 mm projector ever removed? I don’t remember ever seeing confirmation of this and it would be a big project to re-install.

I guess that’s why the Lincoln Square IMAX showings aren’t up yet on Fandango, probably need to confirm they can reinstall the projector (always could be a technical issue, and indeed IMAX says list is subject to change) before they sell the tickets.

Probably won’t be seeing BvS here, but according to the Natural History Museum’s website, they still do some film showings regularly (I always feel an IMAX site should not throw away their film projector until they get laser), so may check out 15/70 again there.

Yeah, New Yorkers finally get some privileges!lol, can’t wait to see it in 70mm! They should just keep the 70mm projector forever.

wow, this is a very exciting news!!! It’s from IMAX.com, so got to be real!!!But on the other hand, it also means no laser renovation before April.

Most tourists who go to this theater opt for the IMAX auditorium since it’s the largest screen in the area despite not showing 70mm film anymore. The reserved seating for the IMAX makes it complicated for people who want to find a good seat in the house and also the high ticket price is nothing to sneeze about.

I always say wait for an official press release or word that construction has begun before getting too excited (indeed we saw this change for Deadpool).

But at the moment, Fandango just has Real D showings listed for Batman v Superman at Lincoln Square (in the Lowes screen) while there are IMAX showings up for the Empire, Kips Bay, and 34st. So hopefully means that renovation would happen at that time. If that were the case, certainly would be ready for the summer movie season.

If anyone wants to see it in IMAX 2D, that will be an option at 34st (figured they would have IMAX 2D showings as well given WB’s track record and that was also the case for Man of Steel).

I have watched every IMAX movie at LS13 since last Sep. and they had never skipped one before. So just felt upset that they threw out so many new IMAX movies recently. Box office definitely played the biggest role here,And this will be a really bad news for those IMAX/Movie fans who always catch the new movies on their opening weekend or the 2nd week.

Personally, I love going to LS13’s IMAX auditorium very much, and I always bring my family together. But now, I just feel sad that I can’t go with my family that often anymore simply because the theaters aren’t following the well planned IMAX releasing schedule.

Maybe they wanted the deadpool in IMAX at this theater instead of showing God of Egypt in IMAX at this theater for a reason that’s why they decided to play deadpool in IMAX to allow people in the 5 boro to see it at AMC LS 13’s IMAX auditorium

Ok, I’m going to say this just once. As an official volunteer here, I’ve asked & gotten the removal of some of his comments. I left the 2-24 comment because frankly it didn’t go so far as some of the more offending posts. But, if everybody doesn’t stop attacking everybody, more posts are going to disappear. And, notably, stick to the cinemas. Discuss IMAX as much as you like. There may be plenty of reasons to cite presidential candidates but NOT on this website.

Whatever happened to Tinseltoes who always used to post on this site?

I am not at all surprised the ‘Deadpool’ is being kept on the IMAX screen. It made 55 million this past weekend and will probably be held at least another 2 or 3 weeks. ‘Gods of Egypt’ hasn’t even been reviewed yet. Not a good sign.

Deadpool is scheduled for another week in IMAX, I was hoping to see Gods of Egypt this week. This is getting really sad, we already missed the Revenant and the Finest Hours(two great IMAX movies)at LS13’s giant IMAX screen, and Gods of Egypt will be the 3rd missing IMAX movie at this theater in just one month! I’m afraid we won’t be able to see many of our favorite IMAX movies at LS13 in the future. I’m starting to hate LS13’s decisions over the past few months, not to mention the renovation has still not started after we have been waiting it for months.

It’s the best theater in NYC, but it’s not the real IMAX. Anyone has any news about the renovation?

According to online reviews posted by Google users, this theater will be renovated in a few months in order for laser to be installed in the imax screen.

This theater is going to be 22 years old this thanksgiving holiday, its showing its age just like other Sony/Loews theaters in the country that were built in the early 90s.

amcbayaza13 and xbs2034: Thanks a lot! If LS13 is gonna show it for one week, It will be another sad story to not have laser by that time. And I may not go watch it if this film is only played @AMNH. I have been there many times, it will be weird to go there just to a 45 min film.lol

Wish there would be a big turnaround and surprise us with a real quick renovation @LS.

Neither the Museum of Natural History nor the IMAX website says anything about Beautiful Planet locations yet.

Typically what happens with documentaries like this actually produced by IMAX themselves (not some nature documentary company) is they play in the NYC multiplex locations for a week or two before moving onto a longer run at museum sites.

Actually the beautiful planet is gonna be shown at American museum of natural history

BTW Is The Beautiful Planet going to be shown @LS13? or @AMNH? Or both?

It’s really sad to know laser IMAX won’t be ready for BvS :( we have been waiting for a long time, and It’s very likely laser won’t happen before this summer.

xbs2034

10 Cloverfield Lane IMAX tickets already on sale for March 10th on, and the seating chart is the exact same as current IMAX set-up (whereas they will change it with the renovation). So yeah, barring a surprise turn-around, not happening for Batman v Superman.

Unless they do it between BvS and the start of the summer movie season with Civil War (which also has scenes shot with IMAX cameras), don’t bet on it happening for a while.

As for the Museum of Natural History, it just shows nature/science documentaries, never Hollywood features.
