jwballer: what is that shot from and for? Could not be from last night Book of Eli showing. Too many people!!!
Hey, Laemmle has to do something. Sunset 5 is being slammed by the Arclight. Encino Town Center as well. The Royal and Monica 4 Plex are losing out to The Landmark.
I was kind of hoping for one of the first 3 choices above or Laemmle. If Mann is winding down I would just prefer they get it over with. Especially with the Chinese so I can actually see a movie I want to see there when I am in L.A. I think Book of Eli is must be on its 53rd week. Must be odd for those people on the tours to see the most famous movie house in the world completely empty.
How about Mann on a month-by-month lease?
I hope so. Indeed the balcony was a nice place to see a film, aside from the Cineplex Odeon color scheme and marble tile. Something should also be done about the ceiling in the place as well. If my memory serves it looks like sagging pieces of 4 x 8 cork board painted Cineplex grey.
There’s been obvious hints on the Village’s page about who will be taking over that theatre lease. Will the same people take over the Bruin’s lease?
I was about to ask the same question.
I hope that an ambitious exhibitor like Regency or Rave picks the Village and the Bruin up. I have no hopes for Pacific as they abandoned the Crest several years ago or Landmark as they seem to be abandoning or neglecting older theaters with the The Landmark nearby.
The Seattle Cinerama, but they just program and run it. Paul Allen restored and owns it. The arrangement was made under General Cinema.
I hope somebody can rescue some old SRO policy trailers and post them on YouTube. That would bring back some childhood memories!
Edward, I think Brad is right. I was there on the final night Mann operated it and they were on a month to month at that point. Mann was supposed to have shuttered it earlier than they did. The other operators continued the month to month operation until it closed permanently.
Brad, how was the crowd?
Ninja Assassins is entering its 4th (!) week at Grauman’s. Chinese 6 has: 2012, The Blind Side, Brothers, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Hurt Locker, The Road and New Moon – ALL ARE 2ND RUN MOVE-OVERS FROM THE ARCLIGHT!! And all they are getting is Sherlock Holmes and torturous Chipmunk sequel? Ugh…..
On the Arclightwebsite it is listed in the “On Sale Soon” section. That could also mean it is opening at the Sherman Oaks location and not Hollywood.
Very surprising. They will be holding Christmas Carol for quite a while.
I guess the Chinese and Arclight could not share the film like they did with the last Terminator film.
Well, good to know they are actually getting something that should do decent business.
Is it just me or does this theatre seem to be getting lousy bookings these days compared with Regal’s Meridian down the street.
If this theatre were ever restored I would have mixed emotions because I love the 60’s/70’s era widescreen redo of the main floor auditorium.
The Arclight has no showtimes for Avatar 3-D at the Hollywood location on Dec. 18th, only the Sherman Oaks location. This normally means that the Chinese complex would be getting it. I do know that Fox hosted a screening of Avatar footage for Exhibs recently at the Chinese to promote the 3-D format. Does this mean the Chinese will be getting the film when it is released?
Called their number and they say “we need more time to get the theatre ready, call back Wednesday.” I can only imagine.
Well, the big day is here. Did it open?
I still think Pacific should acquire the Chinese (and the rest of Mann’s properties. Then they could book films at the Arclight and Chinese (perhaps even the same film if demand calls for it).
Landmark books mostly Disney fare at the Regent, sneaking in the occasional arthouse film if the Disney has nothing to provide. Crest does to some arthouse but seems to get mostly scraps (although lately they had The Hurt Locker and now Julie and Julia which is doing well. Both theatres seem to have had a reduced number of showtimes often only doing a 9-10 show on weekends and having the first matinee in the 1:30 – 2:30 range.
looks like some words are missing. Also what is an RMP?
Would be sad to lose the Fairfax.
