Robert – I hope the screening of Fright Night was only sparsely attended because Hollywood hasn’t learned that they need to stop remaking films from the ‘80’s and come up with something new.
Are they moving to a discount model?
Those return engagements Danny mentioned are replacing Apollo 18 and Shark Night. I imagine they could have just booked Gigli to replace those and done just as well.
Anyone know what the seat counts were here?
Some notable exclusive engagements late in its life were Return of the Jedi and Romancing the Stone. GCC played a lot of Fox and Universal films in the day.
I think I begged before but there must be a picture of the pre-split main auditorium out there somewhere!!
The Chinese and Chinese 6 have 100% 1st run product this week. No move-overs!
I am bummed I missed out on the Exchange on my last LA trip. Caught a flick at the Marketplace though.
They’re pretty slow to update their website.
Currently used as a church.
Who is running the place?
Will be interesting to see if they play same day and date as the Pacific 18 like Mann does or if they will opt for different programming.
Should be listed as closed.
I hope they can co-exist. I kind of wish Regency had taken over the Chinese…
Brad – are you saying that out of factual knowledge or just a hunch?
I think beyond ticket sales, Disney uses the El Capitan like a giant billboard to advertise its films. Millions see it on as tourists or on TV (Jimmy Kimmel?) etc.
What the Chinese needs is a lesson in showmanship and showcasing a film from the folks at the El Capitan. They need to lure a studio, WB, Paramount, Universal whoever into partnering with the venue to showcase studio product. Plus they could have the added feature of the Chinese 6 as a move-over house as new product is showcased at the Chinese.
Does Mann own any of these remaining theaters or are they leased?
I would think Regency would be too small potatoes to be a booker for the Chinese, especially if Mann can’t fight the Arclight. Would need to be somebody big.
Will it still operate under Mann?
Do the Village and Bruin now have a silver screens?
Can they just move a 3D projector theatre to theatre?
Bet they can’t wait to get rid of “Arthur”. I hope that film helps put the brakes on lame remakes of great movies.
Yes its so Bigfoot Entertainment can showcase their crummy movies.
Does that setup require a different concessions stand?
There are some photos on Cinematour.com
I hope somebody can get lots of photos and send them to Cinematour
