I would see a film at the Avco any day over the Grove.
Its on IMDB showtimes
4 New Movies this coming week: Lottery Ticket at Grauman’s. Piranha 3D, Vampires Suck (2 screens) and Nanny McPhee Returns at the 6. Film Fest must only be on 2 screens
I do wonder however if the locals prefer avoiding all the tourists at the Chinese and the Hollywood & Highland complex where the Chinese 6 is located, and if that plays into the fact that most of the desired releases being booked at the Arclight. Is there a prestige factor involved in a studio putting a film at the Arclight, where industry people seem to prefer going to the movies?
The problem is Paramount and WB would rather have their films at Arclight…
I wonder if it still has equipment…
Wonder if Regency is interested in the Festival to broaden their booking power in Westwood…
That must be the Chinese on a Friday night! (bad joke). Seriously, Grauman’s is still showing “Splice” and the Chinese Complex got none of the major releases this week, nor will they get any of the major releases next week. Very sad. I hope Mann closes shop soon so another operator can take over and at least make an effort.
3 up, 3 down. Downstairs all stadium. Upstairs all slope.
AMC might want it to keep any other operators out.
Edward: Jeff Arellano is trying to get ahold of you on CInematour. He wants to come photograph/document the theater.
BTW Edward: Sorry your cinema is closing but kudos for trying to make the Beverly Center step it up a notch.
Edward, try to take photos of each auditorium with the house lights on. There’s a few I have not seen…
Too bad the Fairfax is closed. With the Beverly Center closed it could have had a jump in business. Perhaps the Showcase could make a comeback as a second-run house!
Hopefully Edward havens or somebody will go through and take photos of all the auditoriums, booths etc and send them to Cinematour.
Joe, do we know if there is a third theatre out there with this design?
Thank Goodness. Otherwise the attendance would have kept looking like CWalczak’s picture above.
Sorry Don, it does have a curve to it.
I don’t think there will be good news until another operator takes over and commits to this theatre. Mann probably realized they wouldn’t be able to book any 3-D movies without digital projection.
Brad I am sure they will have it in 2D on another screen.
Somebody should let Scott Neff know another old GCC has bit the dust.
Edward, I am curious why the DLP was installed in the smaller of the 2 upstairs houses…
jwballer: what is that shot from and for? Could not be from last night Book of Eli showing. Too many people!!!
Hey, Laemmle has to do something. Sunset 5 is being slammed by the Arclight. Encino Town Center as well. The Royal and Monica 4 Plex are losing out to The Landmark.
I was kind of hoping for one of the first 3 choices above or Laemmle. If Mann is winding down I would just prefer they get it over with. Especially with the Chinese so I can actually see a movie I want to see there when I am in L.A. I think Book of Eli is must be on its 53rd week. Must be odd for those people on the tours to see the most famous movie house in the world completely empty.
How about Mann on a month-by-month lease?
