ridethectrain, why would you want fake 3D at Dolby Cinema AMC Prime? It’s fine the way it is. 2D is better.

AMC PRIME is the same thing as REGAL RPX. Just another reason for them to charge the public more money.

Still no 3d in DOLBY CINEMA AT AMC PRIME

sorry for the digression here:

“AMC Theatres® is proud to introduce AMC Prime, a revolutionary movie-going experience.

AMC Prime brings together a unique blend of enhanced sensory technology and premium comfort that allows our guests to feel every turn, takeoff and awe-inspiring explosion while reclining in a custom-fitted chair.

How is AMC Prime different? We’re glad you asked…

  • Recliner chairs that have subwoofers integrated into them so guests can “feel” the action they see on-screen
  • Dolby Atmos sound technology and JBL speakers surround guests on all sides for a world-class, immersive audio experience
  • A specialized screen that enhances the visual beauty of every film seen in an AMC Prime auditorium"

~~

Dolby Cinema is merging it’s technology to select ‘Prime’ theaters:

“What is Dolby Cinema at AMC Prime? In the broadest sense, it’s a premium movie-going experience designed to transport audiences into a film’s universe using three components:

1) Dolby Vision — a new dual-4K Christie laser projection system designed for films that have been color graded for Dolby Vision HDR (high dynamic range), giving content 500-times the contrast ratio of conventional projection systems. Pure black levels, expanded color gamut capabilities, and twice the brightness (up to 31fL).

2) Dolby Atmos — a reference quality sound system capable of decoding object-based surround mixing. In Burbank’s case, that’s five in-screen speakers plus 48 surrounds, 4 ceiling-mounted subwoofers, and in-seat transducers for extra rumble.

3) Comfort & Aesthetics — not only does the auditorium boast leather recliners facing a large screen, but the entire space has been painted matte black to control ambient light, color lights have been used to highlight the numerous speakers, and there’s the Signature Entrance, an audio-visual pathway meant to evoke a journey into the mindset of watching a particular film."

Hello-

since a fellow poster mentioned it I have to ask what is an AMC Prime Theater?

Giles
Giles on January 21, 2016 at 5:44 pm

waterguy56: I was under the impression that IMAX creates two different DCP’s – one for it’s 4:3 screens (IMAX-laser) and 1.78 for it’s IMAX-Digital screens.

waterguy56
waterguy56 on January 21, 2016 at 3:40 pm

@ACS12 And they are going to show the finest hour on the 29th right after sw7, then the deadpool, God of Egypt, divergent, bvs, jungle book……..Laser is not happening! It’s never going to happen, so saddddd.

waterguy56
waterguy56 on January 21, 2016 at 3:34 pm

I have a confusion. Why didn’t they start installing the laser projector last year ?What are they waiting for? Is it because the movie tickets sold well at that time so no need to change? Or is it because the laser equipments are so expensive, and they cannot afford it + they think it’s not worth to change? Or is it just because of that ******* permission from the city?Maybe they are never going to do it.

They are even showing The Force Awakens at Lincoln Square all the way to the 27th of this month. There’s no way they’ll install the laser projector in time for Deadpool. Great, crappy IMAX digital again.

moviebuff82: “Hidden cameras are great because they prevent movie goers from sneaking into another auditorium.”

Do you work for a movie theater or something? Even if the cameras don’t catch you, with reserved seating becoming more popular now, it’s impossible for people to sneak to other movies because those seats have already been taken by people online. You would just make yourself look like a fool by sneaking into other auditoriums in this day and age.

“The hidden cameras probably scan a code on the ticket.”

Lol yeah right. They don’t have something that sophisticated.

wow, really!?! Laser IMAX is not going to happen this month. March or later? So many rumors, which one to trust?

@xbs2034, aren’t those IMAX scenes pointless on the digital projection screen since the images are not 1.44:1???

xbs2034
xbs2034 on January 20, 2016 at 9:21 pm

I don’t think they can skip Batman v Superman in March to do renovations as it is a huge release shot with IMAX cameras, and they already gave tickets for a week in advance early screening to the people who attended the IMAX preview event last year. Maybe they could do it in-between BvS and the summer movie season start with Captain America: Civil War, but if not could well be a long time before they finally do this.

The IMAX theater will not be closed for renovation before March. They are still trying to get permission from the city; The earliest time they can get it is March.

AMC prime at empire 25 is awesome! I went there today, only the screen looks smaller, but all the others are superb. Just know this theatre exist from the comments below, it’s now my favorite theatre in nyc :)

AMC Prime is also 7.1/Dolby Atmos sound; far superior to IMAX 6.0 sound.

If I recall correctly, the basement screens have stadium seating but are not very good otherwise. I also think the Loews screen has stadium seating up in its balcony, but not for the downstairs section.

Also @ACS12, if you’re interested, The Revenant is now playing in IMAX as well, though at the Penn Station location, not Lincoln Square.

ACS12
ACS12 on January 15, 2016 at 10:46 pm

Then the IMAX auditorium is the only one with stadium seating. That explains why they don’t put ‘Stadium Seating’ as one of their theater amenities on the the Fandango website. I’m glad the Magic Johnson Harlem 9 theater is close to me. All of their screens have stadium seating. I’ll still go to the Lincoln Square theater for IMAX, though. They do have the biggest screen in NY after all.

mhvbear on January 15, 2016 at 9:52 pm

Screens 1 – 9 Do not have stadium seating. But do have a good slope and have never had site problems. Screen 10, 11, 12 are in the basement and I have only been down there once and can not recall if they have stadium seating. These 3 theaters are fairly small and were added as an after thought.

BvS and the jungle book will be two great movies to see in laser. Will be very disappointed if laser IMAX doesn’t happen before bvs.

xbs2034
xbs2034 on January 13, 2016 at 11:23 am

@mhvbear Star Wars would have already played for four weeks if the IMAX closed this weekend, so that’s partly why the fifth week now on sale suggests laser may not be happening for a bit. And while the switch from film to digital was done in a week, all the other places which went laser have been closed for like a month (this includes a brand new sound system with ceiling speakers, linking up to a 24/7 quality control system, and I believe the auditorium redesign is always meant to be part of it as well).

Also on some other points, I have asked staff here about laser and wrote to IMAX on Facebook, and indeed showing there is a desire for laser here could help move things forward. And I do think there is a window after Deadpool (whenever a theater closes for a month, it will miss something, and don’t feel Divergent is such a big IMAX draw they have to show it), but if the redesign isn’t done then, I could well see them holding off at least until Fall 2016 with Batman v Superman (which supposedly has quite a lot of IMAX shot footage) and then the summer movie season being impossible times to close.

mhvbear
mhvbear on January 13, 2016 at 10:05 am

Disney required theaters to play Star Wars The Force Awakens for a minimum of 4 weeks. The last time I was at the IMAX I asked and was told the Laser installation was supposed to happen in the fall. I wouldn’t think the installation of a new projector would take more than a week. They could hold off on the re-seating for a while.

waterguy56
waterguy56 on January 13, 2016 at 6:54 am

It seems like if the renovation does not begin at the end of the first week showing Deadpool, we will have to wait another 3 or 4 months to get the laser IMAX. They won’t skip any of these blockbusters Deadpool, Allegiant,BvS, the Jungle Book, Civil War, Alice and Warcraft which will surely generate huge revenues during their opening weekends.

xbs2034
xbs2034 on January 13, 2016 at 3:05 am

Force Awakens IMAX shows added for another week, it’s playing at least until January 22.

Since other sites opening their laser installations in Feburary are already closed for renovation, don’t think it will happen in time for Deadpool now. Perhaps they will run in digital for Deadpool and then close till Batman v Superman (nothing too big currently on IMAX’s schedule in between), or perhaps they will delay again. Given how long they’ve already waited, I’m a bit skeptical until there is an official announcement from IMAX/AMC and renovation has begun.

Is there nobody attending the Loews auditorium who can take a photo showing the splendid decor of that auditorium & post it here?
